INTERNS' EXPERIENCE THIS SUMMER

R3SmrIntrnshp_Bricklayrs_DWP20_7-24-2020

I'm different because I walked into R3 with a straight face, but I'm leaving with loud laughter, bright eyes, and a huge smile.

I feel more confident in Math.

I have learned to interact with different people.

VOLUNTEER STORY

Mr. Willie Jones, a longtime resident of the Lansdowne Community in East St. Louis, volunteered with us daily during the summer. Mr. Jones was inspired to join us as he observed the efforts of our interns in cleaning both the alley behind his house and the street in front. His example led others from the neighborhood to either join us or provide water and snacks for our students and volunteers. Mr. Jones has become a regular volunteer, bonding with our students, and sharing the wisdom of his many years of membership in the local Labor Union.

OUR PARTNERSHIPS

SIUE EAST ST. LOUIS

CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL

For the last four years, we've been partnering with Charter High School. Our goal for this year was to be able to serve all students in some capacity, getting 115 of them to work with us. When the pandemic started and students shifted to virtual learning, we created the "Finish Strong" program to incentivize the entire school of 115 students to overcome the challenges due to COVID-19 and finish the school year strong.

CHRISTIAN ACTIVITY CENTER (CAC)

Since 2015, we've had a great relationship with the CAC, but in the last two years, we've solidified a strong partnership to impact more youth for the kingdom of God. R3's new headquarters is on the CAC's property and will be the future site of 26-acre development to serve the community.

LANSDOWNE COMMUNITY INITIATIVE

Over the last two years, we've completed eight projects with LCI. We're so happy to work in collaboration with Pastor Stallworth. Through this partnership, we're able to serve the community in a deeper way. We've been cleaning up streets and alleys, a project of 300 acres in East St. Louis. Just recently, we also started renovating a duplex property that will serve to provide quality housing to families in this community.

GATEWAY PET GUARDIANS

Gateway Pet Guardians is an animal shelter. They are a partner in the community of East St. Louis, spearheading innovative and comprehensive programming with the goal of keeping pets and people together. We're happy to call GPG our friends and will continue to work in collaboration together to provide hope and make East St. Louis a better place to live.
